Strap on your hiking boots and get ready for an adventure! The falls are a local hotspot among visitors and residents as it is accessed from one of Trinidad’s most spectacular beaches, Paria Beach. The trek involves six miles of hills, seasonal evergreen forest and primary coastal rainforest.

From the tiny village of Blanchisseuse, there is a dirt road and a suspension bridge which leads to a trail to the beach. You can enjoy a rest on the mile-long beach before hitting the trail. The trail was once used by donkeys to take supplies to the communities on the northern part of the island. There only are now only a several inhabitants in this area as the only access is by foot or boat.

The hike to the falls can take a couple of hours to a good part of the day, depending on your ability. There are many places to stop to rest that have magnificent scenery. Be sure to look for the many exotic birds and wildlife along the way. You will discover various plant and flower species native to the region.

With the humid region temperatures, the sight of the falls will be a welcomed one! You can swim in the large pool at the base or sit with your toes dipping in the water. For those more adventurous, climb the rocks 10 feet up to plunge into the cooling waters. You can also challenge yourself to swim against the current in behind the falls.
